Abstract

Global risk assessment using the classic risk factors of blood pressure, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, smoking and diabetes mellitus is necessary in patient evaluation. It can predict future cardiovascular events. <br>Various new methods of risk assessment are being developed, e.g. hs-CRP. Individuals at high risk of developing heart failure, e.g those with longstanding hypertension, previous MI, type 2 diabetes, should be targeted for evaluation and early heart failure treatment.
