Elite controllers of AIDS are extremely rare, numbering about 2 000 and accounting for an estimated third of 1% of known HIV-positive people. They are 'viraemic controllers' - healthy infected people whose immune systems keep the virus at low but detectable levels in the blood without drugs, and are of keen interest to AIDS researchers. ..
