n CME : Your SA Journal of CPD - Serious gastrointestinal and cardiovascular events associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs : clinical pharmacology

Chronic pain is one of the commonest complaints encountered in clinical practice, and the most difficult to manage. Common causes of chronic pain include low backache, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, cancer, etc. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) form part of the armamentarium of analgesics, especially in chronic musculoskeletal pain. Non-selective NSAIDs are readily available over the counter (OTC) alone or in combination with other analgesics. All NSAIDs are equally efficacious in pain control.
