Arguably the best definition of FNAB is in a textbook of cytology by de May and reads 'FNA biopsy can be defined as the removal of a sample of cells, using a fine needle, from a suspicious mass for diagnostic purposes'. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), when performed by trained operators and for the correct indications, is a safe and minimally invasive procedure, with an excellent diagnostic yield.
