Abstract

In the first 3 months of life, particularly in the 1st month, immature liver function in infants results in a delay in clearance of antiretroviral drugs, especially nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). For NRTIs the intracellular levels of drugs are more important than the blood levels but more difficult to measure.
