Sesamoids can become tender and painful and so too the associated structures and joint complex can be affected, this is loosely termed as sesamoiditis. Commonly known as the tibial and fibial sesamoids they lie in the tendon slips of the flexor hallucis brevis tendon and underlie the first metatarsal head.
