The female athlete triad is a triad of disorders observed in adolescent and adult female athletes and includes disordered eating, amenorrhoea and osteoporosis, the severity of which is determined primarily by prior menstrual history. It is not restricted to elite athletes but includes also physically active girls and women participating in a wide variety of sports.
