Marathon running cannot ensure protection from coronary atherosclerosis or fatal coronary artery disease. Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine (Vol. 301: 2, 86-89, 1979), Dr Tim Noakes et al report on their autopsy findings in five marathon runners. Included in their study were the coronary conditions of three runners killed in an automobile accident during a routine training run.
