Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the; effect of different hydration states, and different rehydration strategies, on bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and resultant BIA estimations of body composition. Design: BIA was used to measure impedance and to estimate total body water (TBW) and percentage fat mass (%FM) in 24 healthy students (12 male, 12 female) before and after exercise designed to elicit a loss of 1.0 -1.5% of body mass through sweating. Subjects then rehydrated with either water (hypotonic drink) or a commercial isotonic fluid, at which point BIA measures were reassessed
