The objective is to provide a recommendation for outpatient treatment of acute symptomatic pulmonary histoplasmosis in cavers, that is safe and effective. Published literature on the management of acute symptomatic pulmonary histoplasmosis is reviewed. Clinical experience involving 50 cases with acute symptomatic pulmonary histoplasmosis is presented, and provides the basis for the recommendations for treatment.
