oa South African Medical Journal - Chemoprophylaxis of malaria in Portuguese India

Abstract

Malaria is considered under two entirely different aspects: (a) In regions where the spleen index oscillates between 0-5 per cent., it appears as an individual intercurrent disease, liable to the care of the medical practitioner. (b) In regions of high spleen index (over 30 per cent.) malaria prevails as a social, collective disease, which can only be entrusted to the study and care of a sanitarian. it is not possible to have a universal standard treatment for all malarial patients.
