oa South African Medical Journal - Diet and osteodystrophic diseases in domestic animals

Abstract

Bone atrophy and its acute form, osteoporosis, result primarily from increased bone resorption, which invariably takes place in animals receiving a diet deficient in any one or more of its nutrients, organic as well as inorganic. It has still to be shown that these two diseases, whatever their cause, do not always fundamentally result from a disturbance in the metabolism of Ca or P. or both.
