oa South African Medical Journal - Some effect of solar radiation and other factors of climatic environment on human beings

Abstract

The question of how to measure the influence of different combinations of meteorological factors on physiological reactions in the human body is discussed. Attention is drawn to the value of the "" effective temperature"" and the coolingball temperature"" as a means of studying the relationship between air temperature, humidity, wind and solar radiation and the human being. The two methods mentioned, although they are not adequate to what is ultimately needed, give valuable assistance in studying these problems, but are, unfortunately, not in current use, as the publications are not well known in medical literature. The influence of barometric pressure on physiological functions is shortly discussed, and some data of mean air temperatures, humidities and wind velocities for South-Africa and Europe are presented and discussed.
