oa South African Medical Journal - Vi agglutination in the detection of typhoid carriers

Abstract

The varying results obtained by different workers are partly due to the variety of antigens and techniques used. No technique has as yet been descriptionbed which is absolutely reliable for the detection of the carrier state, and workers who have compared several antigens vary in their choice of the most suitable. A formolized Vi antigen as descriptionbed in this contribution is not less suitable for routine use than other agglutinable suspensions; it should be tested daily for any loss in agglutinability.
