Abstract

A strain of virus which has been identified as poliomyelitis virus has been isolated from a case presenting certain unusual clinical and post-mortem features. The South African black-face monkey, Dasiopyga (Cercopithecus) pygerythrus, has been shown to be susceptible to intracerebral and intraperitoneal inoculation with the virus.
