Four cases of meningo-encephalitis ï¿½three fatal - due to Torula histolytica are recorded, together with the laboratory investigations. The primary pulmonary focus has definitely been demonstrated in one case, and reference made to another (Simson, 1945). The four strains of Ponda histolytica are penicillin-resistant. A short review of the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment obtained from the literature is given.
It thus appears that the absence or presence respectively of cutaneous manifestations of nutritional deficiencies and of impetigo and/or scabies is a collective, although not necessarily an individual, indicator of standards of growth, of health, of scholastic performances and of home conditions. In regard to rates of absenteeism and, generally speaking, to physical efficiency, conditions of the skin as studied in this investigation seem to be of no predictive value.
