oa South African Medical Journal - Torula infection of the central nervous system : four recent cases

Abstract

Four cases of meningo-encephalitis three fatal - due to Torula histolytica are recorded, together with the laboratory investigations. The primary pulmonary focus has definitely been demonstrated in one case, and reference made to another (Simson, 1945). The four strains of Ponda histolytica are penicillin-resistant. A short review of the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment obtained from the literature is given.
