*Received for publication March 11. 1946. Except in special clinics with technically trained ward staffs, suprapubic drainage with a Freyer's tube is a safety factor after prostatectomy. By means of a suction technique, details of which are descriptionbed, the patient may be kept dry throughout, the wound is allowed to heal by first intention, complications are avoided and mortality is reduced. By curtailing the postoperative period, reduction in the quantity of dressings required, and saving of the time of the nursing staff, suction methods reduce considerably the expense incurred in connection with the treatment of prostate and other bladder cases.
