Abstract

The problem of pedo-crural acroparresthesia is analysed. Eight variants of peripheral hyperaesthetic patterns are descriptionbed. Each of these is associated with an established visceral, vascular or metabolic disorder. The neurological bases for these patterns are examined. In the genesis of the syndromes viscero-neural reflexes, nerve irritation, neural anoxaemia and endocrine disease may be contributory factors. The effects of par-arteriolar anoxaemia on the spinal medulla are considered. The value of these patterns in differential diagnosis is reviewed.
