oa South African Medical Journal - A criticism of present-day methods in the treatment of varicose veins*

*An address delivered to the South-Eastern Transvaal and Swaziland Branch of the South African Medical Association on March 1st, 1947. The author has considered present-day methods in the treatment of varicosity, and is of the opinion that most forms are undesirable, since their efficacy is dependant upon the use of sclerosants. In the multiple-resection operation, the writer envisages a surgical procedure, not difficult of accomplishment by the trained surgeon, free of hazards associated with sclerosants, and, above all, extending the promise of permanent cure in young or old, without the added burden of pain or prolonged disablement.
