Abstract

Two cases of pneumonic plague are recorded. The fatal case exhibited unusual features in that clinically typical signs of lobar pneumonia presented. The second case, treated with streptomycin, together with sulpha drugs and plague serum, recovered. As far as we know this is the first recorded human case of recovery from pneumonic plague in South Africa.
