oa South African Medical Journal - Mid-thigh amputation : a description of the technique

Abstract

The task of making an amputee ambulant is the responsibility of the surgeon who performs the operation. This is best accomplished by the provision of a suitable stump, which will stand up to the wear and tear of active use. For this reason the stump should be conical in shape and there should be no redundancy of soft tissue.
