oa South African Medical Journal - Clinical otosclerosis : the transtympanic approach for the restoration of serviceable hearing

Abstract

The transtympanic approach - a system of operative otology-may be used for several surgical procedures on the temporal bone, one of them being fenestration of the vestibular dome for the restoration of hearing in clinical otosclerosis. The advantages of this route over the transmastoid approach are discussed. A transtympanic fenestration operation is descriptionbed using an endaural incision and a bone-dustfree fenestration technique.
