oa South African Medical Journal - Epitrochlear adenopathy in the Bantu

Abstract

In a series of 500 cases, clinically palpable epitrochlear lymph glands were found in 75% of native males and 54% of native females. The enlargement was unrelated to syphilis. Over 80% of the glands showed a chronic nonspecific lymphadenitis and repeated minor trauma and sepsis was suggested as one of the aetIOlogical factors. Three glands removed for biopsy (10%) proved to be tuberculous.
