oa South African Medical Journal - The radiological diagnosis of aortic sinus aneurysma

Abstract

1. Two patients admitted to hospital in congestive cardiac failure were diagnosed as cases of aortic sinus aneurysma on the basis of a distinctive roentgenogram which showed bulging of the upper right cardiac border and enlargement of the left ventricle, the contour of the heart appearing sickle-shaped 2. Autopsy findings on these two patients showed the presence of an aortic aneurysm involving the ascending aorta and the aortic sinuses. 3. The aetiological factor in one cases was cystic medionecrosis and the other syphilis.
