oa South African Medical Journal - Pigmentation of lips and buccal mucosa associated with intestinal polyposis

Abstract

1. Four cases manifesting peri-oral and buccal pigmentation with associated intestinal polyposis are reported. 2. The syndrome occurs in both sexes and all races and more commonly presents as intestinal obstruction in the second and third decades. 3. The recognition of the pigmentation provides reliable and useful diagnostic evidence of polyposis in patients presenting symptoms of intestinal obstruction or other symptoms attributable to polyposis.
