Complement fixation and H.A.l. tests have been applied to the study of influenza virus strains isolated in Cape Town during 1952. All proved to be of the A prime variety. Difficulties encountered with the quantitative complement fixation tests are discussed. Discrepancies are pointed out between results of H.A.I. and complement fixation tests.
