oa South African Medical Journal - Tuberculosis in East London : with particular reference to the Santa tuberculosis settlement, Fort Grey, and its relation to tuberculosis control

Abstract

The tuberculosis problem of East London is descriptionbed in relation to control measures and the establishment and functions of a tuberculosis settlement. A plea is made for the establishment of settlements as close as possible to the community they serve, and if possible for the integration of settlement activities with the normal housing development of the area. The importance of Care Committee work is stressed. The solid achievements of the Tuberculosis Association and the SANTA Settlement in helping to reduce the tuberculosis mortality in East London are enumerated.
