oa South African Medical Journal - Fibrocystic disease of the pancreas

Abstract

1. Four cases of fibrocystic disease of the pancreas are descriptionbed to illustrate the ways in which the disease may present and to show that more than one member of a family may be affected. 2. Reports from the literature indicate that the condition is transmitted as a simple recessive trait. 3. Points in the diagnosis and treatment are discussed and reference is made to a method which attempts to liquefy the tenacious mucus in the respiratory tract. 4. Cor pulmonale is mentioned as an additional complication.
