oa South African Medical Journal - Management of resistant ileus by the Neely-Catchpole regimen

 

Abstract

Four case histories are presented demonstrating the efficacy of treating prolonged ileus on a physiological basis, i.e. by (i) reversal of extrinsic sympathetic inhibition by alpha and beta adrenergic blockade; (ii) augmentation of intrinsic motor drive by cholinergic stimulation.
