Abstract

'Pseudo-hypophysectomy' does not occur in African protein calorie malnutrition (PCM) and a deficiency of pituitary immunoreactive human growth hormone (HGH) cannot be held responsible for the characteristic growth retardation, in spite of suggestive data based on pituitary histology and growth hormone bio-assay.
