Measured activity of wildebeest was translated into an energy demand by allocating theoretical energetic values to each of the various activities, using data from domestic ruminants. Thereby an estimate of the cost of maintenance and activity was obtained. The phenomena of growth, gestation, lactation and homeothermy were similarly estimated.
