Extracted from text ... 4 Prison officials at Durban's Westville Prison were ordered to immediately begin providing anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment to all inmates who needed it. Fifteen HIV-positive inmates and the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) had brought an urgent appeal on May 30 asking the court to order the prison to remove any obstacles delaying access to ARV treatment. Judge Thumba Pillay handed down the order in the Durban High Court. The prison's operational plan required that HIV-positive inmates needed four counselling sessions before receiving treatment.
