Abstract

Despite high rates of infection in certain areas of the world, the overall frequency of infection is declining. Successful eradication of this organism has revolutionized the treatment of peptic ulcer disease from only symptom control to cure. As dominant risk factor, this has decreased the incidence of gastric carcinoma in previously infected individuals. However, as highlighted in the issue by Lambiotte, significant challenges remain in the eradication of this infection.
