August 2006 50 REVIEW Small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBAC) is a rare gastrointestinal malignancy, accounting for only 2% of primary gastrointestinal tumours.1 There is however an increased incidence in patients with a history of Crohn's disease (CD), coeliac disease and hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes such as Peutz- Jegher syndrome (PJS), familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer (HNPCC).1 A recent meta-analysis reports an overall standardised incidence ratio (SIR) of 27.1 (95% CI 14.9-49.2) in the setting of Crohn's disease.2 The risk is increased in patients of the male gender and is also associated ..
