Abstract

Oocyte cryopreservation has been a tool in reproductive medicine for nearly two decades. Oocytes are cryopreserved either by slow freezing or vitrification, with a subsequent thawing / warming cycle.

The slow freeze method relies on initial low cryoprotectant concentrations and a slow, two-step cooling regime (seeding and equilibration). The storage device is then plunged into the liquid nitrogen.
