Willem Saayman's professional life was spent in education. After a stint as teacher, in a mission school in Zambia, he studied theology in Stellenbosch, and then went to Namibia as teacher at the Orumana Theological School of the Dutch Reformed church. This seminary trained ministers for a young church the northern parts of Namibia the (then) Evangelical Reformed Church in Namibia. In 1978 he moved to Pretoria, where he taught Missiology in a ""free"" University Faculty.
