The Christian Church hasï¿½ been divided from the earliest centuries of its existence. In Church history we have to do with the major divisions between Roman and Eastern Christianity, and in the 16th century between Roman and Protestant Christianity. Protestant Christianity itself does not present a picture of a united front, divided as it is into a multiplicity of variants. The reasons for the divided state of Christianity are to be located in a host of factors.
