Blacks to leave beaches was the front-page headline of an East London newspaper recently. The paper reported that ""Police removed about 45 blacks from white beaches ... and warned that from today they would enforce the law segregating beaches 'to the letter' "". ""The police action,"" the report went on, ""follows complaints from the public about a large crowd of blacks, estimated at well over 1 000, who used Eastern Beach on New Year's Day and spilled across the Blind River there towards the rocks on the town side of the beach. ,,
The thinking of Black Theology is well known to most of us by now. No further introduction is needed and the way in which different churches and theologians reacted to it makes it difficult to say anything new on this brand of theological thinking. Yet no one should therefore reckon that Black Theology can be declared defunct, sterile or fruitless. On the contrary, exponents thereof are convinced that the role of Black Theology in world history has still to be played.
