Extracted from text ... 95 june 2005 Another Naked Eye Comet in 2004: Observations of Comet C/2004 Q2 Machholz Tim Cooper Director, ASSA Comet & Meteor Section PO Box 14740, Bredell, 1623, South Africa tpcoope@mweb.co.za Discovery and first observations Comet C/2004 Q2 was discovered by Don Machholz on 2004 August 27.47 with his 15cm f/8 reflector. The comet was estimated at 11 mag at time of discovery, and was a southern object at declination -22? located in Eridanus. The first ASSA observations were on September 11 by Tim Cooper and Magda Streicher, estimating the magnitude as 10.1 and 10.2 respectively, followed by Mike Begbie on September 15 at estimated magnitude 10.3. All three agreed that the comet was moderately condensed with DC = 5 ..
