Extracted from text ... 89 Deep Impact in July The Deep Impact spacecraft will arrive at Comet Tempel 1 in early July and will release a small 370 kilogram "impactor" spacecraft into the comet's path for a planned collision to the icy body's sunlit side on the 4th of July, 2005. On impact, the crater produced is expected to range in size from that of a house to that of a rugby stadium. Ice and dust debris will be ejected from the crater revealing fresh material beneath. A dramatic brightening caused by sunlight reflecting off the expelled material and the possible opening of a gas jet is anticipated.
