Extracted from text ... october 2006 129 news notes PKS 2155-304 outburst widely observed On the evening of 27 July 2006, the HESS gamma-ray telescope in Namibia detected an unexpected energetic shower from PKS 2155-304, a 13th magnitude active galaxy in Piscis Austrinus. The HESS observers alerted Prof Okkie de Jager of the Unit for Space Physics, at North-West University in Potchefstroom and he issued a call for confirmatory observations in other wavelengths. At Sutherland, spectroscopic observations with SALT were made between 28 and 30 July, according to Dr Ramotholo Sefako, SAAO astronomer. Photometry was also done with the 20-inch telescope, ..
