Extracted from text ... october 2006 123 First Science with SALT The announcement of first science with SALT very appropriately coincided with the opening of the 26th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, which was shortly after the paper had been accepted for publication by the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The observation demonstrates some of the unique capabilities of SALT and its purpose-built instrumentation.
