Abstract

ASSA has a rich past of contributing astronomical observations in support of professional studies. In recent times this contribution has been dwindling to the extent that only a few dedicated individuals are making observations of scientific value. This paper summarises some of the past and current contributions and makes yet another plea for new observers to become involved. For simplicity I refer to South African observations in this paper, but within this terminology include the contributions of observers in Namibia and Zimbabwe.
