MONEYWEB No. 250 November 2006 SMALL BUSINESS TAX AMNESTY Tax advisers exempted from FICA reporting By KATHY THERSBY Contributing editors and consultants: TAX ADVISERS, accountants and tax practitioners are now free to assist clients to apply for the small business amnesty, without running the risk of prosecution. Special Government Gazette no. 29299, gazetted on 13 October, has exempted them from the Financial Intelligence Centre Act's provision that advisers who act as intermediaries between their clients and the SA Revenue Service are required to report suspicious transactions that emerge from information disclosed to them by the client. Without the exemption, many tax advisers would have been reluctant to help clients apply for amnesty, and many non-tax-compliant businesses would have been put off applying for amnesty.
