oa Mosenodi - Formal education among the peoples of Botswana before 1840
The paper presents a detailed descriptionption and analysis of formal education among the peoples of what is now Botswana prior to European penetration. The analysis reveals separate education for boys and girls with that of boys lasting eight years and that of girls jive. The curricula of boys' and girls' schools had both common and gender specific content. The major goal of both curricular was to equip the youth with skills they would need to lead productive adult lives in society. The content stressed survival skills and character moldings.
