This study investigates several variables associated with instituting an educational technology programme at the tertiary education level in Botswana. The new Department of Educational Technology, in consolidating its plans to launch the programme in consonance with National Development Plans 7 and 8 has conducted a needs assessment study. Data were collected through the use of a questionnaire and interviews of teachers in the Colleges of Education, Ministry of Education and Government Parastatals dealing with staff training and heads of schools. The findings of the study revealed an acute need for an educational technology programme in tertiary education in Botswana. Recommendations are made to enhance the developmental of appropriate and relevance technologies in Botswana.
