Abstract

Warts are small non-cancerous skin growths usually caused by human papillomaviruses. People may have just a single, isolated wart or many warts. Prolonged or repeated contact is required for the virus to spread, so warts usually spread from one area of the body to another rather than from person to person. Sexual contact can also spread genital warts.
