oa Professional Nursing Today - Anatomy and physiology of wound healing : wound care

Abstract

Upon injury, a dynamic and complex process occurs, leading to the replacement and/or restoration of the structural and functional properties of the damaged tissue. The depth of the injury to the skin determines the sequence of events, which in turn depend on one another to proceed successfully. The healing process can only be successfully facilitated or supported if the wound management practitioner has thorough knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of wound healing.
