There are relatively few analgesic / antipyretic agents which are safe to use in children; certainly fewer than would be available for adults. In addition, children with fever and pain often have associated vomiting from the disease or symptoms. This further limits the availability of medication for these conditions. Most analgesic / anti-pyretic agents available for children are not available by the rectal route.
